Thinking out of standards is the idea behind this scarf design. First question of the designing process was, why should a scarf always has square ends? Couldn’t it also be rounded? Couldn’t it be out of standard? Not rectangular but kind of an ellipse. It became an unusual eye catcher scarf, perfect for adventurous beginners as well as for experienced knitters.
This scarf uses easy Garter Rib in the middle and Garter Stitch at the rounded ends. Worked with big size needle and fluffy yarn it is fun to knit and cozy to wear. The name ABGERUNDET means rounded in German.
The scarf is worked flat, beginning with a simple Long-Tail Cast-On and working 2x2 Garter Ribbing to create the centre part and finishing one rounded end using decreases. After that, stitches are picked up at the cast-on edge and the other end is shaped using decreases equal to the first end. Both rounded ends are worked in garter stitch to simplify the knitting process and to allow a beginner to focus on the decreasing stitches technique.
The pattern contains a step by step description and a schematic.
